Fiorentina stand in the way of Club Brugge and European history after victory in Greece

Club Brugge edged closer to their first ever European trophy with a confident 2-0 win away in Greece over PAOK. With a 3-0 aggregate win, the side are through to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. They will face Serie A side Fiorentina over two legs, with the side from Tuscany having overcame Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen in extra-time.

This is the first time that the side have made a major European semi-final in 32 years, and they certainly deserved it. They could have easily won the tie by more goals, but two great finishes from Ferran Jutglà gave PAOK a mountain to climb in the second half. The side from Thessalonica, despite a raucous home crowd, were unable to overcome a make shift Club Brugge defence that saw midfielder Eder Balanta deployed as a central defender.

Nicky Hayen has certainly done himself plenty of favours if he has any ambition of getting the head coach role full time. The caretaker head coach is unbeaten since taking over from Ronny Deila at the end of the regular season. Making a European final will surely be enough for him to get the job should he wish to have it.
