According to The Athletic, Feyenoord have rejected Liverpool’s opening offer for head coach Arne Slot after the Premier League side made the Dutchman their preferred choice to succeed Jürgen Klopp. The Reds pursuit of Slot kicked off earlier this week after the 45-year-old head coach helped guide Feyenoord to their 14th KNVB Cup, beating NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in Sunday’s final.

Liverpool have had a €9m offer rejected by Feyenoord, although they remain in direct contact with Arne Slot who is said to be enthusiastic about the possibility of taking over at Anfield this summer. The Reds still have eyes on other targets, although Slot is their number one target.

Slot spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands, featuring in midfield for PEC Zwolle, NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam. After hanging up his boots in 2013 at PEC Zwolle, Slot took up coaching roles at the club before being appointed as an assistant coach at Cambuur. In 2017, he joined AZ Alkmaar, initially working as an assistant before being appointed as head coach two years later. The Eredivisie was cancelled during his first season in charge due to Covid, but Slot guided the club to second place, level on points with Ajax.

Feyenoord came calling in 2021, and over the last three years Arne Slot has transformed them into a powerhouse in European football. Now, he appears to be keen on the Liverpool job. The Premier League giants are already discussing contract terms and as long as they reach an agreement with Feyenoord over a fee, things look set to progress.
