Former QPR midfielder remains in fantastic form for high-flying NEC Nijmegen
NEC Nijmegen are flying in the Eredivisie at the moment. Rogier Meijer’s men are currently sixth in the table, two points behind Ajax, who sit in the Europa League qualification place, and they’re on course for their highest top-fight finish since the 02/03 campaign. The man at the centre of NEC’s success if former QPR star Tjarron Cherry.
At 35 years old, Tjarron Chery is still lighting up the pitch, scoring and assisting on a regular basis in the Eredivisie. On Monday night, the Suriname international netted a brilliant brace in NEC’s 3-0 victory over Excelsior. The attacking midfielder’s second strike was finished in superb fashion, as he struck the ball from range, sending it flying into the top right corner of the goal. In total this season, Chery has netted five goals and provided two assists for NEC. On Tuesday, the player confirmed that he will not return to his parent club, Maccabi Haifa at the end of the season, leaving the door open on his future.
NEC have two games left to play before the end of the campaign, with Feyenoord and Almere City standing in front of them on their quest for European football. A sixth place finish would mean they’d have to settle for the Europa Conference League play-offs. A fifth place finish would secure a Europa League qualification spot.
