Average mortgage interest rates in the Netherlands at lowest point for 2024
With record-high house prices and overbidding becoming more common, future homeowners will be relieved to hear that the average mortgage interest rates for fixed-rate periods of 10, 20 and 30 years have reached the lowest point for 2024.
Dutch mortgage interest rates dropping
According to financial advisors at Van Bruggen Adviesgroep, the mortgage rate for a fixed period of 10 years is at the same level as it was in the first months of 2024 at 3,78 percent. The interest rate for this most popular fixed-rate period is expected to drop further this month – even more good news for those looking to buy a house in the Netherlands.
The interest rate for a 20-year period has dropped from 4,24 percent in January to 4,08 percent in August, and the average rate for a fixed period of 30 years reduced from a 2024 peak of 4,37 percent to 4,19 percent. The 5-year rate also went down – from 3,8 to 3,75 percent – but did not reach the lowest rate of 3,67 percent from February this year.
Trends for average mortgage rates in the Netherlands
According to the experts at the advisory company, it is noteworthy that interest rates for mortgages in the Netherlands changed very little throughout this year. “Perhaps this could change in the last part of 2024, but that is not a certainty,” claimed the company’s mortgage expert.
However, it appears to the firm that mortgage interest rates at Dutch banks are more likely to show a slight downward trend than a slight upward trend. This will be determined by the developments of inflation and the interest rates on which central banks decide.
