Dortmund v PSV Preview | PSV looking to keep up hopes of first Champions League quarter-final since 2007
PSV travel to Germany to face Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday evening hoping to keep alive their hopes of adding a second competition trophy to their cabinet. The Dutch side won the 1988 final against Benfica in the same country, overcoming their Portuguese opponents on penalties at the Neckarstadion in Stuttgart. On their way to the final they beat Galatasaray, Rapid Wien, Bordeaux and Real Madrid. If they can beat Dortmund, they will make the competitions quarter-finals stage for the first time since 2007.
The sides are level ahead of the match up at the famous Signal Iduna Park, with goals from Donyell Malen and Luuk de Jong in the first leg. PSV shaded the chances and possession in the first match, but will expect Dortmund to look to dominate at home. Over the weekend the Eredivisie leaders beat Go Ahead Eagles 1-0 away from home, despite playing the final minutes with 10 men after Armando Obispo was sent off. Head coach Peter Bosz is hopeful that star midfielder Joey Veerman will be available after a thigh injury. The midfielder has travelled with the team to Germany.
Dortmund also come into the fixture off the back of a win, which came having to play the second half with 10 men. Malen and Jaydon Sancho scored the goals as the side beat Werder Bremen 2-1 at the Weserstadion. The side are fourth in the Bundesliga, six points behind Stuttgart in third and 20 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
