Former Celtic and New York City head coach Ronny Deila set to be sacked by Club Brugge
Het Nieuwsblad is reporting that Club Brugge are set to part ways with Ronny Deila. The former Celtic head coach only took over last season and was handed a contract until 2026. Deila had earned the job after an impressive season with a limited budget at Standard Liege. However, despite a relatively good period before Christmas, the side have not been able to mount a serious title challenge and were knocked out of the domestic cup in the semi-finals, despite holding a lead in the first leg.
Over the last few months, Deila’s side have lost crucial games late on. Anderlecht, Union St Gilloise and Antwerp have all struck late to deny Club, with the head coach coming under scrutiny for how he manages these games. On Sunday afternoon the side lost 2-1 away to Sint-Truiden, and this defeat appears to be the final straw for the club’s board. Nicky Hayen, who currently manages the sides second team Club NXT, is expected to take over.
Hayen has Pro League experience with Waasland-Beveren, and has been managing in the Challenger Pro League with the sides second team this season. He was also an assistant to Rik De Mil when he was in charge of the side following the departure of Scott Parker last season.
