Players to have played for two different countries at T20 World Cups
Until date, only four players in history have represented two different nations at the T20 World Cup. USA’s Anderson will become the fifth.
1. Dirk Nannes (Netherlands and Australia)
The left-arm quick was snubbed by Australia for the 2009 World Twenty20 in England and Wales, being picked for Netherlands. In the next edition in 2010, he represented Australia.
2. Roelof van der Merwe (South Africa and Netherlands)
Before switching allegiances in 2015, Van Der Merwe represented South Africa at the 2009 and 2010 World Twenty20 tournaments. He has since represented Netherlands at the 2016, 2021, and 2022 editions.
3. David Wiese (South Africa and Namibia)
Wiese, who has featured in the Indian Premier League as well, first made his T20 World Cup debut in 2016 with South Africa. The 38-year-old made his debut for Namibia in 2021, and has represented the nation at the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.
4. Mark Chapman (Hong Kong and New Zealand)
Chapman made his international debut as a Hong Kong player in 2014 and was subsequently named in Hong Kong’s squad for the 2014 World Twenty20, which was also Hong Kong’s first appearance in a major ICC tournament. Since 2018, though, he has been representing the Blackcaps, featuring in the 2021 and 2022 editions. He will play in the 2024 T20 World Cup, too.
5. Corey Anderson (New Zealand and USA)
Another player in this list to have represented New Zealand, Anderson featured for the Kiwis in the 2014 and 2016 editions. Earlier this year, he made his debut for the USA cricket team, and has been named in the squad that will participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup at home.
