Title number 19 well and truly on the cards as the Nicky Hayen revival continues for Club Brugge
Club Brugge put in another strong display to overcome Genk for the second time this week. The side ran out 3-0 winners to remain in the hunt for their 19th Belgian top flight title. Despite going into the play-offs 19 points behind leaders Union St Gilloise, the format and the halving of points has seen a now in form Club Brugge look like the best team in the league. Nicky Hayen, given caretaker charge of the side after the dismissal of Rony Deila, certainly deserves a lot of credit.
Against Genk on Sunday afternoon, Kyriani Sabbe gave them the lead thanks to a mistake from goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt. Hugo Vetlesen continued his fine form with the second just after the 65th minute, before he turned provider for Igor Thiago to grab the third.
Club will hope they can continue this recent good form this Thursday when they face Fiorentina in the first leg of their Conference League semi-final. They are in Italy for the first leg before the second leg in Brugge on Wednesday the 8th of May.
